Join KPCC and LAist for a live taping at LAist Studios’ Retake podcast, featuring a screening of ARTBOUND “Duchamp Comes to Pasadena” followed by a conversation with Retake host John Horn and special guests on Tues., Dec. 13 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Crawford Family Forum (474 S. Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA 91105).
In 1963, Marcel Duchamp, considered by many to be the father of conceptual art, was photographed in a museum playing chess against a nude model - author and artist Eve Babitz. The latest season of KCET Original Emmy® award-winning arts and culture series ARTBOUND includes episode “Duchamp Comes to Pasadena,” directed by David Grabias and produced by Artifact Studios, Inc., tells the story behind this iconic image as well as revealing how Duchamp agreed to hold his first-ever career retrospective at the Pasadena Art Museum (now known as Norton Simon Museum). The opening night party would become a defining moment for generations of artists who would go on to revolutionize the contemporary art world.
