Boston, MA – A “Call for Events” has been issued for the 6th Annual Boston Design Week, a 12-day citywide festival taking place March 27 – April 7, 2019. Boston Design Week seeks to increase public awareness and appreciation of all aspects of design, foster recognition of the vital role design plays, and bring new audiences to a wide array of design industries and organizations. To download the Participant Guide or to register an event visit www.BostonDesignWeek.com. The deadline to register an event is January 18, 2019.

The 2018 Boston Design Week was a resounding success with 70+ events over 12 days, 20% of which were Sold Out. More than 15,000 people attended events in fourteen neighborhoods of Boston and ten cities and towns in greater Boston.

In 2018 Boston Design Week was invited to join WORLD DESIGN WEEKS, an international coalition to share knowledge, resources, and best practices. Boston joins Barcelona, Beijing, Eindhoven, Helsinki, Mexico, and several others globally.  In 2018, Boston welcomed Aryanour Djalali, the CEO of DNA Barcelona Architects, who offered two different programs. As part of World Design Weeks, the festival is seeking to increase international participants.

All BDW events are open to the public and most are free of charge. Events explore technical design, urban design, fashion, decorative arts, interior design, architecture, graphics, product design, digital design and more. Non-profit organizations, design-related businesses, schools and universities, professional design associations, government agencies, individual designers and designer collaboratives are all invited to propose events for Boston Design Week.

“Design is all around us. It influences our world and environment, our health, the way we live, our business and commerce, what we wear and even how we perceive reality,” comments Boston Design Week co-producer Tony Fusco. “Design can help us, or hinder us. The more aware we are of design, the better able we are to understand it’s impact - positive and negative -- on our lives.”

Special Tracks return in 2019, including a new track Technical Design. If an event falls into a specific track it will have a special designation online and in the Guidebook to help attendees find and follow a track that interests them. The 2019 Tracks are: Designing Boston, Professional Focus, Design and Social Impact, and Technical Design. For more information on tracks, visit BostonDesignWeek.com. Events are not required to have a special track.

As part of the festival, the Design Awards Gala, including the presentation of the Annual Lifetime Achievement Award will be held on Thursday evening, April 4. Location and details to be announced. Past Lifetime Achievement Award Recipients include nationally and locally recognized figures in the world of design including: Vladimir Kagan, Dakota Jackson, Massimo and Lella Vignelli, Vicente Wolf, John P. Axelrod, Robert Campbell, and Maurice Finegold, AIA.
