International Dealers Specializing in the Art of Traditional Cultures Gather in New York City for the Spring 2019 Madison Ancient and Tribal Art (MATA) Fair, May 10th - 12th, 2019, at the Arader Gallery, New York City.

New York, NY. – The eight annual spring Tribal Art Fair - Madison Ancient and Tribal Art (MATA), opens at the Arader Gallery on Manhattan’s upper east side on Friday, May 10th, 2019. Its final full-day is Sunday, May 12th, 2019. The opening reception will be held on Friday evening from 5pm - 8pm. This alliance of renowned international dealers specializing in the art of traditional cultures, will present an exhibition of select works of the highest quality. Works range from exceptional museum quality antique figurative and abstract sculpture, to ancient artifacts from the rich tribal cultures of Africa, Oceania, Indonesia, Asia, and the Americas.

Participating MATA dealers include; PM Boyd, Seattle (African), Mark Eglinton, New York (Tribal art), Sebastian Fernandez, New York (African, Pre-Columbian, Tribal art), Galerie Flak, Paris (Africa, Oceania, Americas), Amyas Naegele, New York (African), Splendors of the World, Hawaii (Oceanic), James Stephenson, New York (African), and Skinner, New York. MATA members exhibiting at other locations around New York include; Arte Primitivo, 3 East 65th St. and Pace African & Oceanic Art, 32 East 57th St.

The spring 2019 MATA fair, a component of Tribal Art Week – the annual round up of museum and gallery exhibitions celebrating the art and artifacts of ancient and traditional cultures, will coincide with the much anticipated Sotheby’s sale of African and Oceanic art.

As culturally significant as it is aesthetically commanding, tribal art is enjoying a renaissance among an art-loving public raised on modern and contemporary art fairs and a thriving art market. Once, these works influenced the likes of Picasso, Matisse and Gauguin. Today tribal arts and artifacts are prized for their design and craftsmanship. MATA invites collectors of modern and contemporary art and design to consider the beauty of non-Western sculpture both on its own terms and for its potential to compliment their collections.

MATA will exhibit on the 1st and 2nd floors of the Arader Gallery, a beautiful Beaux-Arts townhouse located at 1016 Madison Avenue and 79th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Show Hours are:
Friday, May 10th, 11am - 8pm
