NEW YORK — Online platform Superhouse steps offline with its inaugural exhibition, Super Group, a pop-up show featuring small-scale work by 50+ contemporary artists and designers from around the world. The three-day show will include tabletop-sized sculpture, decorative objects, functional art and lamps as well as small furniture produced in a range of techniques and materials.

Super Group is a reference to the so-called ‘supergroups’ that comprised the 1960s Italian Radical Design movement,” says Superhouse founder Stephen Markos. “Just like the Italians worked to challenge traditional notions of art and architecture, this group, more than 50 years later, is working similarly to blur the distinctions between art and design.”

The exhibition takes place over two second floor galleries at 15 Ingraham Street in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Visitors can expect to explore dozens of works specially commissioned for the show as well as others curated by Superhouse.

An opening reception will be held from 2 – 8 PM EST on Friday, December 4. Weekend hours are 12 PM (Noon) to 6 PM EST, Saturday, December 5 and Sunday, December 6.

To diminish the community spread of COVID-19, Superhouse and Super Group will follow all New York State and City regulations; masks are required and a limited number of visitors will be allowed inside at any given time to ensure social distancing. Advance appointments can be made by contacting hello@superhouse.us but are not required.

All works will be available for sale in person throughout the show weekend and through the online viewing room at www.superhouse.us.

Superhouse is a Brooklyn-based platform founded in 2019 by Stephen Markos to celebrate historical, contemporary and emerging art and design, particularly furniture. In June 2020, Superhouse organized an Instagram-based raffle of art and design objects, which raised nearly $20,000 for organizations working to end systemic racism and fight race-based injustice. Super Group is Superhouse’s latest project aimed at celebrating art and design in a small package.

Superhouse would like to thank the Umwelt Gallery for generously lending the pace for the pop-up.
