Detroit Institute of Arts is planning an exhibition of works by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo for 2015. The show will focus on the pair's pivotal artistic period spent in Detroit from April 1932 to March 1933.
When the famed artists-couple came to Detroit for Rivera's mural commission at the DIA, titled Detroit Industry, they created some of their most important artworks. Rivera's murals became his materpieces. Kahlo defined her unique style during the same period.
The show, to be on view from March 15, 2015 through July 12, 2015, will feature 80 artworks, including Rivera's preparatory drawings for the Detroit Industry murals.
"Not shown in almost 30 years, these magnificent works demonstrate Rivera's sweeping narrative ambition, envisioned as a synthesis between Mexico's spiritual values and United States' industrial might," the DIA stated in a release.
