Silver Overlay Vases Highlight UK Fair

Cooper Events / January 24-26, 2020 / , United Kingdom

Superb Silvered Glass Features at Harrogate Pavilions Antiques Fair Glass decorated with silver will be an eye-catching attraction at The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative Antiques & Fine Art Fair at The Great Yorkshire Showground, England, from 24th – 26th January 2020.

Yorkshire antique dealer Michael Lines of John Newton Antiques from East Yorkshire is pointing collectors towards a new major collecting area when he exhibits at the fair. Michael specialises in fine English and European porcelain and studio pottery with pieces by many of the major factories. As he explains, collecting trends are changing many younger collectors are looking for interesting, decorative pieces by known artists and makers from the mid-20th century. ‘Silver overlay is proving very popular with a range of collectors,’ says Michael, ‘From those who admire Mid-Century Modern to others who find it fits most comfortably into a modern home, more minimalist than the chintzy look of some antique collectors, and others who see its Art Deco appeal.’ Porcelain and glass makers such as Rosenthal, Hutschenreuther, Lenox Belleek, Plankenhammer and Krauthiem & Adelberg sent their vases, cups, saucers, coffee pots and other pieces to the silver overlay specialist studios of Friedrich Deusch & Co, Friedrich Wilhelm Spahr & Co and others who added the silver decoration to produce stunning beautiful pieces. The cut glass comes from The Josephine Glassworks, also known as “Josephinenhütte” in Silesia. All of these pieces are decorated in silver overlay by Friedrich Deusch and date from 1925 - 1935.

The Pavilions of Harrogate Fair brings together many dealers from the north of England. Jack Shaw sells fine English and Scottish silver; Melody Antiques offer English country furniture and Mark Buckley shows Victorian and Edwardian walnut and mahogany pieces for the drawing-room. Rowles Fine Art offer paintings and sculpture; jewellery specialists include Plaza and Shapiro & Co; while Roger De Ville has early English pottery.
