Artist Selva Ozelli's Net Zero Art Show at United Nations Climate Conference COP26

Representatives from countries around the world some twenty thousand diplomats, business executives, activists and world leaders will gather in Glasgow, Scotland, for the latest round of climate talks—the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties (COP26) from October 31 to November 14, 2021  for a green recovery from the pandemic. Because climate change ultimately threatens life on earth.

COP26 is the first time since the Paris Agreement that more than one hundred countries are revisiting their voluntary commitments known as nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the accord.  It will be USA’s first COP after re-entering  the Paris Agreement, which

aims to keep the global average temperature from rising by 1.5°C (2.7°F) above preindustrial levels and prevent it from reaching 2°C (3.6°F) above.

The conference comes as greenhouse gas emissions and global temperatures reached historic levels, fueling unprecedented disasters worldwide, including intense wildfires  during past summer.   Because according to  a UN assessment  released in August the world has already warmed 1.1°C, and that warming will exceed 1.5°C within the next two decades.

Scientists and UN officials have warned that if governments don’t take drastic action to reduce emissions immediately, much of the world will suffer climate catastrophes, such as devastating sea-level rise, longer and more intense heat waves, wildfires, pandemics and widespread species loss, among other consequences.

All eyes are on whether negotiators can make progress on issues such as climate finance, coal use, methane emissions, climate finance and carbon markets and raise awareness for a green recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A sustainable green recovery plan from the pandemic, necessitates understanding the links between climate change, health, and inequality; and implementing ambitious climate change policies, which align with the Paris agreement. The United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. More important than ever, these goals provide a critical framework for a COVID-19 green recovery. My Net Zero Art Show which is on exhibit at four COP26 art websites, reflect these themes. These art shows were selected in numerous UN Art Contests and published in the 2021 United Nations Guide  as well as exhibited at Climate Week New York, CIMUSET, CUHK Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change and Solidarity Shows COVID-19 by World Health Organization (WHO) & Create 2030” explained artist Selva Ozelli.
