Bonhams will offer nearly 900 diverse antique pieces from estates and private collections across the country at The Elegant Home auction on November 13-14. The sale will be an opportunity for collectors and decorators to acquire quality curated pieces of European and American furniture, chandeliers, tapestries, paintings, mirrors, clocks, sconces, candelabra, bronze and marble sculpture, ceramics and glassware, silver, works of art, and Oriental rugs spanning the 16th through the 20th century.

“The Elegant Home is a great example of European and American antiques sourced from coast to coast that will appeal to the discerning eye of the novice and experienced collector. The Bonhams team has once again surpassed itself in putting together a sale that encompasses 500 years of history at estimates which are sure to appeal to clients,” said Andrew Jones, Director of Furniture and Decorative Art for North America.

In an interview for this sale with featured designer Antonio Martins, he said, “I feel that antiques are slowly coming back… quality pieces have always found their place but I believe that a broader use of antiques is just around the corner.” Martins’ international background and travels influenced his design aesthetic, which is to create interiors that reflect the client’s personality and background through a mix of modern art, antiques, and vintage finds.

The European Decorative Arts, Furniture and Sculpture selection includes a breathtaking bronze figural group of Gloria Victus (illustrated above, center) after the model by Marius-Jean-Antonin Mercié (French, 1845-1916), F. Barbedienne Foundry Paris (estimate: $15,000-20,000) as well as a rare pair of Louis XVI style gilt-bronze-mounted porphyry covered urns from a New York Estate (illustrated above right, estimate: $8,000-12,000). A lovely Louis XV marquetry secrétaire à abattant, late 18th century, from a New York Estate (estimate: $4,000-6,000) is a highlight of the Furniture section along with a good pair of George III giltwood mirrors, circa 1760 from the Monterey Museum of Art (illustrated above left, estimate: $12,000-18,000) A vast collection of Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica pattern dinnerware, from the Robinson Family Trust, is the focus of the Porcelain section.

The breadth of Fine Art offerings ranges from Continental Baroque Masters like the Flemish genre scene Driving the Herd by Pieter van Bloemen (estimate: 3,000-5,000) to more Modernist works like the Antoni Clavé L'enfant au Tambour from the Julian Silva Revocable Trust, San Francisco (estimate: $10,000-15,000), and American and International Maritime works like Joe Duncan Gleason’s Whaling Bark, Charles W. Morgan, Built in 1841 at New Bedford, Mass. (estimate: $3,000-5,000).

Fine silver is led by an Important pair of Regency entrée dishes by Benjamin Smith III from the Foley Service, 1819 (estimate: $20,000-30,000). Another English silver highlight is a monumental Bacchic vase by Charles F. Hancock presented by the 3rd Marquess of Bute to Sir William Thomas Lewis from the Estate of Dorothy B. Warne, Santa Rosa, CA (estimate: $8,000-12,000).
