The Americans in Mexico show has been extened, by appointment or by chance, through May 23. On view are paintings and works on paper by Peggy Bacon, Abe Blashko, Elizabeth Catlett, Theodore Haupt, Lawrence A. Jones, Charles Keller, Dorothy Browdy Kushner, Doris Rosenthal, and Judith Shahn. Judith Shahn’s Honeymooners, 1950, records a time-honored tradition: a young couple get their picture taken at Lake Xochomilco, Mexico City, while, working in the same year, 1950, Theodore Haupt presents a modernist fiesta in Market Place (San Miguel Allende).

The Los Angeles Art Show is at the LA Convention Center through Sunday, January 22, 2012.  
      We are featuring Judith Shahn’s Back Yards, Greenwich Village, 1948, and a group of Anne Ryan paintings and works on paper. Peggy Bacon would have been so pleased to see her pal Djuna Barnes featured in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.  Now showing, the film opened May 11 in Cannes, of course.  Barnes (1892-1982), the American modernist writer, was part of Bacon's Greenwich Village crowd, and figures in Bacon's Off with Their Heads, published 1934.   The Chicago Print and Drawing Fair is currently on view in the Yates Gallery of the Chicago Cultural Center, March 17 through March 20, 2011. Fourteen dealers are showing, all International Fine Print Dealers Association members. At this fair we are featuring works by women: Peggy Bacon (in advance of our April show), Riva Helfond, Anne Ryan, and Marguerite Zorach. Will Barnet, James Daugherty, Howard Daum, Peter Grippe, Hugh Mesibov, and Fred Shane, round out the group.

Art Miami is in full swing.  At our booth, A-85, in the north tent (one of three), Hugh Mesibov's Siege (Leningrad), 1943-44, and Fred Shane's Portrait of Man with Orange Shirt, 1940, are getting lots of attention.  The New York, NY section features James Daugherty, Riva Helfond, Anne Ryan, and Louis Schanker.  Lynd Ward wood engravings, Peggy Bacon prints and drawings, and modernist works by Fannie Hillsmith, Peter Grippe, and Bernard Rosenquit, roundout the collection. Yesterday, we began setting up at Art Miami.  Four works from Hugh Mesibov's Wartime Shipyard are up along with three from our recent Fred Shane show.  There is a group of New York City subjects (James Daugherty,  Riva Helfond, and Louis Schanker) and modernist works by Fanne Hillsmith and Anne Ryan. Peggy Bacon and Will Barnet are also featured. The benefit preview is tomorrow evening, November 30, and the show runs through Sunday, December 5.
