"Take Another Look!" opens at Demuth Museum

Demuth Museum Announces 2012 Invitational Exhibition

The Demuth Museum will open its 2012 exhibition schedule with the annual Invitational exhibition, showcasing the work of contemporary artists from Lancaster and the surrounding region who have been invited to exhibit new works based on a given theme. Demuth Museum Showcases The Newswangers

Lancaster, PA – The Demuth Museum is pleased to announce its current exhibition, Chasing Inspiration: The Art of the Newswangers, on view until November 27, 2011.  The father and son artist duo of Vernon Kiehl Newswanger (1900-1980) and Christian Newswanger (1927-2005) may be best known for their depictions of the Amish way of life in Lancaster County.  However, in examining these two artists separately, one will see that they each developed a unique perspective.  Kiehl and Christian wrote and illustrated the well-known book Amishland in 1954; however, not much has been written about these ...

"Demuth in the City of Lights" Opens at the Demuth Museum

The Demuth Museum is currently featuring the exhibition "Demuth in the City of Lights," on view through August 28, 2011.  This exhibition brings together many of Charles Demuth’s works from his travels to Paris in the early twentieth century. American Modernist painter Charles Demuth (1883-1935) soaked up all Paris had to offer by visiting galleries, attending live performances, discussing ideas with fellow artists including Marsden Hartley and Marcel Duchamp, and drinking up the night-life.
