Former Curator Sues Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco

21 April 2013 - by ArtfixDaily Staff

Last week, a former curator at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco filed a suit against the institution alleging wrongful termination for her support of the union and for whistleblowing.

Lynn Orr, a curator for 29 years at the de Young and Legion of Honor museums, claims she had glowing evaluations but lost her job for what was termed as performance related issues.

Orr says her firing came after she attended a union protest and objected to changes to an appraisal that she “believed fraudulent and unlawful.”

Museum spokesman Ken Garcia said a comment will be made after the museum has been served with the lawsuit. The city is also named as a defendant.

Without a director for more than a year, amid reports of turmoil within the ranks of staff, the institution recently appointed Colin Bailey to lead. Bailey previously served as the deputy director and chief curator at the Frick Collection in New York.

The museums' former director John Buchanan, died in 2011, after a battle with cancer.
