Desert X, the contemporary art biennial in various locations across California's arid Coahcella Valley, is back from Feb. 9 to April 21, 2019.

The first edition of this free, curated exhibition of large-scale artworks drew around 200,000 people in 2017.

A "Desert X 2017'' catalog will be available with details of all works by featured artists. "Desert, Why?'' will be a three-day event featuring performances, tours, receptions, and panels, including a panel at the Salton Sea regarding climate change.  And a new podcast series "is intended to be a modern take on a mobile audio tour to educate, inspire and entertain visitors," according to a release.

Among the highlights this year is Jenny Holzer’s “Before I Became Afraid, 2019,” featuring the words of gun violence survivors, family members and activists, and some poetry, projected onto a mountain.
