California Art Studio Raises $100K in 2 Days for Fire Relief

15 October 2017

The San Francisco artist-couple behind a popular "I Love You California" art print ran a 2-day fundraiser that quickly generated $100,000 for fire relief in Northern California.

3FishStudios partnered with The What newsletter and Next Draft mailing list to get word out about the special fundraiser. Funds from sales will go to those affected by historic deadly wildfires raging in and around the wine country destinations of Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Napa since Oct. 8.

The print of a bear hugging the state of California was inspired by sheet music for “I Love You, California,” a song written for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition that is now California’s state song, said painter-printmakers Eric Rewitzer and Annie Galvin to SFGate.

Some 40,000 people remain evacuated and 41 have died in the North Bay wildfires over the past week, while 99 people are still reported missing. An estimated 5,700 structures have burned over 200,000 acres.
