A mis-matched pair of fancy colored diamond earrings sold together for $57.4 million at a Geneva auction Tuesday, setting a new record.

A single anonymous buyer won both of the pear-shaped earrings which were auctioned separately by Sotheby's. The lots were expected to bring $50 to $70 million together.

"The Apollo Blue" earring went for $42.1 million, and "The Artemis Pink" diamond sold for $15.3 million. Taken together,, they are the most expensive pair of diamond earrings ever sold at auction. The Miroir de l'Amour earrings held the previous record set at Christie's last year for $17.6 million.

The nearly identical shaped stones are a 14.54-carat blue diamond, and a 16-carat pink diamond.

Sotheby's said the new owner would rename the blue earring The Memory Of Autumn Leaves and its pink twin, The Dream Of Autumn Leaves.
