Engravings found inside a Gibraltar cave are the artistic expressions of Neanderthals, say scientists of a new discovery.
An international team of researchers has published their findings in the journal PNAS
. They concluded that far from current thought, Neanderthals had intellectual abilities that led to the creation of geometric patterns found in the cave art. Neanderthal tools were also discovered at the site, which was covered in undisturbed sediment.
