NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Paciel González in Life is But a Dream. The exhibition opens May 22, 2018 and runs through June 12,  2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 24 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Paciel González's mixed-media works are often titled after nebulae. And similar to astronomical phenomena, they have an inner logic guiding their formation which seems at once ubiquitous and abstract. Alluding to cosmology as much as the structure of cities, Paciel's pictures could be said to represent the creations of worlds. Mixing photography with other media (such as drawing or paint) allows Paciel to comment on his chosen themes, as though inserting himself into their point of origin and redirecting them.

Paciel has an overt fascination with creation itself, modeled on universal principles present throughout the known universe. In a work like Nebulosa 1190 the conception of worldliness has both a spatial and a psychological meaning. Spatially, the picture seems to swirl toward its center: a locus of energy which provides the picture’s strength. Psychologically, the movement delineated resembles a spiral, like a slow-moving body of water; indeed, the image’s overall watery appearance lends itself to a comparison with flooding. In this way, Nebulosa 1190 is simultaneously unmaking itself and in process of formation.

About the Exhibition

Life is But a Dream is a group show that explores the surreality of memory and identity in a world too often constructed to resemble a mere product on the shelf of popular culture. Comprising 17 artists, the primary link joining them together is how memory can be reshaped by the imagination. These artists all share in examining the content of what they remember, with social and familial life acting as a lens through which they reexamine recollected moments.
