NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Catherine Timotei in A Rich Spring Profusion. The exhibition opens April 18 and runs through May 8, 2019 with an opening reception on Thursday, April 18 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Catherine Timotei is a French Corsican artist and designer who divides her time between Corsica and South Africa.

Drawing is the bedrock of her art and she studied Renaissance painting and color theory at the Lorenzo di Medici art school in Florence Italy; a radical shift in her artistic direction took place when she came to study Abstract Expressionism at the MoMA of New York City. Since then visual theory has become the main subject of her work.

Her first solo exhibition was held in Gaborone Botswana and was facilitated by South Africa’s one of the foremost and respected gallery, Everard Reid Gallery. Several solo exhibitions were held throughout South Africa before she entered the European market in Monte Carlo, followed with a solo exhibition in the historic Le Lazaret Museum in Corsica in 2017, and in the same year she won the international award for the Contemporary Art of excellence.

Timotei uses pure pigments mixed with linseed oil, applied on linen canvas with a squeeze allowing various lengths of time for the drying process, stretched on multi-dimensional layers of colors to create a visual illusion, with the supreme temptation to create a precious stone in its mysterious and fascinating glow. To sum up, the colors and techniques passionately portrayed by Timotei are unique in style and form and are highly appreciated by the cognoscenti.
