Melissa Morgan Fine Art

Melissa Morgan Fine Art presents the debut of Richard Baker's newest body of work, Desert Scenes.  The gallery’s inaugural exhibition for Richard Baker opens January 2nd, 2015, with a reception scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  With his distinctive style, Richard Baker captures the brilliant, sun-drenched activities of desert life by sculpting the effects of light on his subjects through heavy, pigment-rich brushstrokes.   Baker's paintings explore the subjects of realism and material abstraction, maintaining the romance between figural representation and adoration for the medium of painting - a philosophy which recalls the practices of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, from which Richard Baker finds his inspiration.  Richard Baker's art education began at the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied painting under renowned realist painter, Rackstraw Downes.  Baker’s works are also influenced by cinematography, which he comes by honestly as a highly regarded film and television producer.  The gallery will be concurrently hosting exhibitions for acclaimed Bay Area artists, Eric Zener and Suhas Bhujbal.
