BOSTON, MA – Skinner, Inc. presents two Fine Jewelry auctions to close out 2016. The live auction on December 6 will feature over 450 lots, including the collection of noted jewelry expert Rita Goodman. The online auction, which is open for bidding until December 7th, features over 200 lots including many signed pieces by Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Bulgari, and Chanel. Both auctions will be available for public preview on December 4th and 5th in the Boston gallery.

Colored Stones

Skinner is excited to offer three significant Kashmir sapphires on December 6; a platinum, sapphire, and diamond ring, with the sapphire weighing 3.19 cts. (Lot 450, Estimated between $30,000-50,000), an unmounted sapphire weighing 3.12 cts. (Lot 451, $30,000-50,000), and another unmounted sapphire weighing 5.11 cts. ( Lot 452, $125,000-175,000). Other notable gems in the live auction include a Burma ruby weighing 7.07 cts. (Lot 454, $100,000-150,000), a Burma ruby and diamond ring (Lot 453, $8,000-10,000), and a Colombian emerald and diamond ring (448, $10,000-15,000).

The Collection of Rita Goodman

The December 6 live auction opens with the Collection of Rita Goodman, an expert in Art Nouveau decorative arts and the long-time owner of the Peacock Alley gallery in Beverly Hills. Standouts from this collection include a rare Art Nouveau opal and peridot ring by Georges Fouquet (Lot 53, $10,000-15,000), an Art Nouveau dragonfly brooch by Masriera y Carreras (Lot 64, $10,000-15,000), and an Art Deco gem-set tie brooch (Lot 69, $10,000-15,000).

Art Deco Jewelry

Among the many pieces of Art Deco jewelry in this auction there are several worthy of special mention. A Chinese scroll brooch (Lot 443, $15,000-20,000) is from the estate of Catherine Lederer Durant, the wife of General Motors co-founder William Crapo Durant. There are several Art Deco diamond bracelets, including a beautiful diamond and onyx bracelet (Lot 444, $10,000-15,000). In addition, a unique Art Deco diamond twinstone ring (Lot 446, $20,000-30,000) showcases the beauty of 1920s design.

Fine Jewelry Online

For the second time ever Skinner is holding an online auction of devoted entirely to fine jewelry as a complement to their traditional live auction. Open for bidding now through December 7, the online-only auction features jewelry estimated under $3,000, with a particular focus on signed, contemporary pieces. Makers include Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Chanel, Hermes, Temple St. Clair, and Bulgari.

Previews, Catalogs, and Bidding

Auction previews are free and open to the public and held in Boston on Sunday, December 4 from 12-5PM and Saturday, December 5, from 12-7PM. The print catalog is available for purchase from the Subscriptions Department at subscriptions@skinnerinc.com. Prices realized will be available at www.skinnerinc.com during and after the sale.
