NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Siv Storøy in Mystery as Muse. The exhibition opens October 13 and runs through November 2, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, October 18 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
The works of Norwegian-born Siv Storøy are carefully crafted admixtures of photography, acrylics and ink. What makes their union possible is her reliance of digital media, in terms of which she blends these different formal elements—often representing women whose bodies and attire are contextually offset from the backdrops they are positioned against.
As fashion establishes a sense of rapport with the world—determining how one is seen, and indicating one’s consumerist tastes—Storøy uses allusions to fashion as a kind of middle term, linking the personalities of her females figures with the environments surrounding them. In “Into the Woods,” the presence of a figure, a face, takes on a symbolic meaning: the woman seems representative of some purified emotion, embodying this state of feeling in the way she’s poised in relation to her circumstances.
In other pictures, women appear as protagonists in a story narrated through the collage-like juxtaposition of objects. As the eye moves from element to element, feature to feature, the collaged elements meld into a unified story as much as a unified picture.
