The 16th Annual Los Angeles Art Show returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center January 19-23, 2011. Presented by the Fine Art Dealers Association (FADA) and KR Martindale Show Management this encyclopedic art event will feature more than 100 international exhibitors, an engaging lecture series, film screenings, special events program, live performance art, book signing, and special exhibit spaces.
China, a powerhouse of Asian Art will be the focus of the 2011 show. A special program featuring Chinese art with accompanying lecture series, will be a highlight of this year’s fair. A special exhibit, ‘Three Walkers – Crossing Over’ presented by Guangzhou’s 53 Art Museum, is curated and sponsored by the prominent Asian art magazines Art Gallery Magazine and Gallery Sights and features celebrated artists Feng Feng, Liu Qing-yuan, and Qin Jin. Additionally, The Los Angeles Art Show will showcase a significant number of participating Chinese galleries, a majority of whom have never displayed works outside of China. Their inclusion provides attendees with a remarkable opportunity to see what’s really hot in Asian Art. With the creation of China Today, the fair provides fresh insights into the contemporary reflection of China’s strong visual arts traditions and offers a rare window into the international climate.
China Today will feature a lecture on Contemporary Chinese art led by artist, Tao Dong Dong as well as a screening of the 2006 documentary, “The Rising Tide” which provides a ‘living sense’ of China’s Contemporary art scene.
Additional Special Exhibitions include: The Sister Cities of Los Angeles International Art Exhibition , Vox Humana, Flora Kao’s Ghost Grove Presented by the Los Angeles Art Association and Rarely/Unseen: A Private Collection of Photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson.
The Los Angeles Art Show has been a driving force for the City’s Arts Month. According to the resolution passed in August of 2009, “...The Los Angeles Art Show, bringing thousands of works from 100 domestic & international galleries and a number of world class museums to Los Angeles. The City will use the confluence of over 50,000 visitors to anchor a month-long celebration of arts in the City. The Los Angeles Art Show will kick off with an Opening Night Premiere Party on Wednesday, January 19. Proceeds from the Opening Night Premiere Party will enable official Preview beneficiary The Art of Elysium to expand its program to bring arts to critically ill hospitalized children and increase substantially the number of school children who visit the Getty through the Getty Museum’s Education Department program for Title One School visits.
With more than 4,000 patrons in 2010, the Los Angeles Art Show Opening Night Premiere Party has consistently drawn attendees who love art, including museum patrons, political dignitaries, collectors, celebrities, and supporters of arts education including: Lisa Ling, James Franco, Brad Garrett, Victor Garber, Steve Martin, Rhea Perleman, Ethan Suplee, Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Eric La Salle, and Michael York, as well as art patrons Eli Broad and Gayle Roski. The Opening Night Premiere Party provides a first-look at the Los Angeles Art Show. More than $1 million of artworks were sold during the opening night at the 2010 show.
The Los Angeles Art Show will open in conjunction with the International Fine Print Dealers Association’s (IFPDA) 26th Annual Los Angeles Fine Print Fair offering collectors and art lovers a comprehensive look at Prints in all techniques. Juxtaposing many periods and movements, visitors will have an opportunity to view and purchase fine prints from across a broad spectrum of Old Master, German Expressionist, antique and modern Japanese, 18th and 19th-century European, 19th-century American, American Regionalist, Latin-American, and Modern works to Contemporary masterworks and new editions.
The 2011 Show will feature expanded satellite programs and special events, including a compelling symposia series of art discussions highlighting prominent artists, museum, and arts professionals in topical discussions.
