Raelis R Vasquez, En Las Mañanas, Oil on Canvas, 36'' x 48''

NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Raelis R Vasquez in The Latin American Contemporary Fine Art Competition. The exhibition opens December 5 and runs through December 15, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, December 6 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.

About the Artist

Artist Raelis R Vasquez paints intimate scenes of everyday life in a Dominican home. Working primarily with oil, Vasquez highlights the psychological states of the figures in his works while giving the viewer a window into the figures' daily lives.

In The Beautiful Ones, the artist's family is represented sitting down to a meal while being surrounded by allegorical symbols, such as a television and a book self on opposite sides of the room. These kinds of details invited the viewer to a more sophisticated allegorical narrative. In En Las Mañanas, Vasquez explored his Afro-Latino family by representing a young girl's relationship with her mother. Rooted in brief moments in time, Vasquez’s work shows us what it means to be Latino in the United States.
