TEFAF ONLINE 2021 CONCLUDES WITH MULTIPLE SALES TO MUSEUMS AROUND THE GLOBE

(Amsterdam, The Netherlands; New York, NY) September 14, 2021 – This week, The European Fine Art Foundation (TEFAF) concluded TEFAF Online 2021, featuring nearly 700 exceptional works from more than 260 world-renowned exhibitors and resulting in impressive sales spanning periods, perspectives, cultures and categories to museums and institutions as well as individual collectors. The depth and variety of these sales is unique only to TEFAF fairs, which offer unparalleled quality over 7,000 years of art history. This year’s fair emphasized storytelling and discovery, diving into the narratives accompanying each work through highly successful TEFAF Collections and robust virtual programming, which featured insights and debate among more than 40 international specialists.

Over the course of six days, collectors and institutions, including some of the world’s most eminent museums, gathered online to learn, discuss, and buy work at the top levels of the international market. Nicolaas Teeuwisse OHG sold Tabula Cebetis (c. 1550), by the Venetian School, to Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam. A Groeningemuseum, Belgium, acquired Caretto & Occhinegro’s Portrait of a Man in Armour (c. 1560), attributed to Gillis Claeissens. Scene in an Italian Country Inn, Possibly a Self-Portrait of the Artist with Her Husband on Their Wedding Trip (1821/25), by Hortense Haudebourt-Lescot, presented by Gallery 19C, was acquired by The Clark Art Institute, Williamstown, Massachusetts. A leading Eastern European museum purchased Rococo-Écuelle with Présentoir and Spoon (1751-53) from Helga Matzke.

“I am thrilled with the response to my trio of discoveries. One item I’m happy to announce will go to a British institute and a second has very strong interest from a private collector,” said Runjeet Singh of Runjeet Singh Limited, an exhibitor which joined the TEFAF community last year as part of TEFAF Showcase. The gallery displayed Pair of Illustrations Depicting Arms and Armour (19th century), Suit or Maile and Plate Armour (17th century), and Pre-Mysore Rocket (18th century rocket, 1580-1630 blade) at this edition of TEFAF Online.

A selection of other notable sales at TEFAF Online includes White Cube’s sale of Untitled (Penis Print) by David Hammons to a private collector, ArtAncient’s sale of Laurel Wreath (c. 300 BC) for six figures and Cindy Chao’s sale of the artist’s Dragonfly Brooch (2021) for over one million USD. Additionally, BURZIO sold François Ladatte’s Pair of Rococo Candlesticks (c. 1750), and Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art sold Emil Nolde’s Stillleben mit Herbstblumen (c. 1930/1940). Two works from Kunstkammer Georg Laue, Masterwork (c. 1620) from the circle of Johann Eisenberg and Renaissance Pomander (c. 1620), also sold, as did Attic White-Ground Lekythos (c. 450-430 BC), attributed to the Quadrate Painter, from Kallos Gallery.

The 35th anniversary edition of TEFAF Maastricht will run in-person March 12–20, 2022, with an invitation-only preview March 10-11, 2022.

TEFAF New York 2022 will run in-person May 6–10, 2022, with an invitation-only preview on May 5, 2022.
