The show will open on August 15, 2009 at the Fly Fishing Festival sponsored by the American Museum of Fly Fishing in Manchester, Vermont before moving to our gallery located at 268 Newbury Street in Boston.
Galen Mercer, born in Toronto, Ontario, is the grandson of two painters and the son of another. After recieving formal fine art training, he has been painting professionally since his late teens. Galen's life in the Catskill Mountains seamlessly blends his love of painting and nature. His diverse body of work is characterized by a delight in and acute sensitivity to color and rhythm. His bold use of colors creates graceful and dynamic compositions. Mercer's art embodies the vigor of the present moment; his paintings vibrate with the innate vitality of nature, and yet remain highly sensitive to quiet, organizing harmonies. He is considered among the finest landscape and sporting artists of his generation.
