Many porcelains from Helena Woolworth McCann's collection are being offered through Aspire Auctions current online auction. Bidding has already started and lots will close this Thursday 9/2 starting at 10:00 am EST. Her collection was divided among several museums, principally the Met and the MFA, Boston, including CMA, by her foundation, the Winfield Foundation. Helena Woolworth McCann was one of the most important collectors of Chinese Export Porcelain in the 1930s, and she displayed it in all of her homes, including Beauport, the home of Henry Sleeper, which she bought in 1935. Beauport is now open to the public as part of the houses of Historic New England, formerly SPNEA. These export porcelain items have been deaccessioned from the collection of the Cleveland Museum of Art, with proceeds to benefit future acquisitions. Online bidding and the catalogue may be viewed at http://www.aspireauctions.com. Other notable ex-collection names include Elinor Gordon, Lucille and Robert H. Gries and Matthew and Elizabeth Sharpe.
