One Man Show. Matthew's Galleries is excited to announce the discovery of one of the most dynamic plein air impressionist artists to emerge in years! The quality and sparkle of Jonathan Farley's work has earned him the distinction of being one of the few living artists the gallery has ever represented. Born in 1970, Farley is mostly self-taught, yet greatly influenced by the 19th century French impressionists and Van Gogh. He moves with ease from soft, interpretive landscapes to a more hard-edged technique using impasto pigment. While Farley has traveled and painted around the world, our exhibit includes Oregon landscapes for the most part. The paradox of these landscapes is his sophisticated approach, while retaining the common character of the locale he is painting, whether it's Milwaukie, Oregon or Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Unlike many landscape artists, Farley often includes competently painted figures, architectural and genre elements in his scenes. Again, with ease he carries one through the scene with these effectively placed components. An impressionist is not an impressionist unless he has mastered color. Farley's exquisite palette ties it all together!
Join us and meet the artist, Saturday, July 24, 2010 from 2 to 6 pm. Sixty paintings will be exhibited for sale. Reflecting the current economic climate, Matthew's Galleries has priced the exhibit accordingly. Most of the sixty paintings, tastefully framed, are priced under $900. The show will run through August 21st.
